What is the church? Aliens.

What is the church?  And what can we liken it to in Genesis 21?

"And the two of them made a covenant. Then Abraham set off seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves. And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What is the meaning of these seven ewe-lambs that you have set off by themselves?” And he said, “You shall take the seven ewe-lambs from my hand as proof on my behalf that I dug this well.” Therefore that place is called Beersheba, because there the two of them swore an oath. And they made a covenant at Beersheba. And Abimelech, and Phicol his army commander stood and returned to the land of the Philistines. And he planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba, and there he called on the name of Yahweh, the everlasting God. And Abraham dwelled as an alien in the land of the Philistines many days."

The church doesn't really belong.  It doesn't fit in with the "ruler of this world," and his agenda.  We live here as the exiles did in Babylon.  Under authorities who don't honor our Lord or recognize His authority over them.  We do not share their values, their culture (though we should be a beneficial contributor), we live humbly as strangers and immigrants in peace and for the peace of the land which God has promised to us.  Still doing the work we were made to do, be fruitful, multiply, steward the land, Love our God and King and our neighbors.  The meek, shall indeed inherit the earth.
